Heavy-Duty Mechanical Grease Removal for Commercial Kitchen Extract Ductwork
 
The VDT Grease Ripper is a heavy-duty rotary cleaning head developed for the aggressive mechanical removal of thick, hardened and stubborn grease deposits from commercial kitchen extract ductwork.
 
Designed specifically for professional grease extract cleaning as per TR19, the Grease Ripper provides the aggressive initial action needed when conventional brushing or chemical cleaning alone struggles to penetrate severe grease build-up.
 
Triple Cutting-Disc Action
The Grease Ripper features multiple flexible ripping arms, with three metal cutting discs fitted to each arm. As the Grease Ripper rotates, centrifugal force drives the flexible arms outwards towards the internal surfaces of the duct. The cutting discs then cut, rip and break through accumulated grease deposits, providing multiple points of mechanical contact on every rotation. Having three cutting discs on each arm creates a progressive ripping action, helping break down heavy deposits into more manageable contamination ready for the subsequent scrubbing and degreasing stages.
 
Four Sizes Available
The VDT Grease Ripper is available in four sizes:
 
320mm - 455mm - 640mm - 810mm
 
The range allows the appropriate Grease Ripper to be selected according to the dimensions of the ductwork being cleaned.
 
Designed to Work with the VDT Grease Buster Scrub Shaft for optimum performance, the Grease Ripper is designed to be used in conjunction with a VDT Grease Buster Scrub Shaft fitted with 300mm frayed cables of the corresponding length. The Grease Buster performs two important functions within the system.
 
Firstly, the frayed cables provide an aggressive secondary scrubbing action, helping remove and agitate grease remaining after the Grease Ripper has broken through the heavier deposits.
 
Secondly, the Grease Buster Scrub Shaft acts as a centraliser, helping keep the Grease Ripper more centrally positioned within the ductwork while the cutting discs work against the surrounding surfaces.
 
Together, they create an effective staged mechanical grease-removal system:
 
RIP → SCRUB → DEGREASE
 
Grease Ripper – cuts, rips and breaks through heavy grease deposits.
Grease Buster – aggressively scrubs and agitates the remaining contamination while helping centralise the system.
Degreasing – completes the cleaning process by removing the remaining grease and residues. This makes the Grease Ripper particularly suited to heavily contaminated kitchen extract systems where substantial grease deposits need to be mechanically broken down before final cleaning.
 
Replaceable Wear Components
The Grease Ripper has been designed for demanding professional use, and the flexible ripping arms and cutting discs are subjected to considerable mechanical forces during operation. Important Wear & Tear Notice Grease Ripper cables/arms and cutting discs are consumable wear-and-tear components and are not covered against normal wear and tear. Service life will vary considerably depending on the severity and thickness of grease contamination, condition and construction of the ductwork, operating technique, rotational speed and contact with internal obstructions, fixings, sharp edges or other components. The Grease Ripper must be thoroughly inspected before every use. Any cable/arm or cutting disc showing excessive wear, distortion, damage or deterioration must be replaced before the equipment is operated. In particularly demanding applications, replacement of damaged or worn components may be required prior to each job.
 
The service life of these components therefore cannot be guaranteed and should be considered part of the normal operating and maintenance cost of the system.
